I’m one of those strange people who actually figured out what they wanted to be when they grew up at age 12. After benefitting from counseling during my parents’ divorce and interviewing a psychologist for a school report, I decided to become a psychologist.
During college, I considered careers in other helping professions such as social work and medicine. Still, I kept coming back to my original love of psychology because I found the courses so fascinating. I did minor in social work, and it instilled in me a passion for social justice and an appreciation of how much public policy can influence our lives.
I love being a psychologist because I love 1) helping others make transformative changes to improve their lives, which benefits their families and communities, and 2) learning about the science of our emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and research on using psychotherapy effectively to treat mental health symptoms and increase well-being.
I’m a white, cisgender woman who strives to practice cultural humility in my personal and professional life by seeking out new knowledge and experiences. I’m LGBTQ+ and neurodiversity-affirming.
I grew up in Texas, so I love BBQ and breakfast tacos and think “y’all” is a beautifully inclusive and useful word that all English speakers should adopt.
When I’m not working as a psychologist and business owner, I enjoy running, taking neighborhood walks, hiking, reading, watching movies, and traveling.
